Ecological leather processing starts in the Beamhouse with Hair-Save, Low Sulfide Unhairing. With the launch of PELLVIT® LSG, and ERHAVIT® LSU, TFL successfully provided the leather industry with a cost effective, ecological and sustainable system to facilitate hair-save unhairing for quality leathers.
Although in practice most tanners still run hair-burn processes with huge sulfide offers, hair-save systems are rapidly becoming the new industry standard. The main challenge for the tanneries is to remove the hair completely, with a sulfide offer of 1% or less, including a proper removal of hair-roots and fine-hair.
With ERHAVIT® LSC & ERHAVIT® LSR, TFL launches two new reductive unhairing agents, allowing the industry to even further reduce the use of sulfide.
ERHAVIT® LSC – Liming agent for improved hair follicle cleaning-out
ERHAVIT® LSC is a reductive unhairing agent based on organic sulfides, and is free of inorganic sulfides and enzymes. It prepares the hair for hair loosening in the Hair-Save unhairing process and improves the cleaning-out of the hair follicle. For optimum removal of hair residues, ERHAVIT® LSC is best used together with ERHAVIT® LSU.
ERHAVIT® LSR – Highly concentrated reductive unhairing agent replacing sulfide
ERHAVIT® LSR is a highly concentrated, low smell reductive unhairing agent based on organic sulfides and free of nitrogen, inorganic sulfides and enzymes. It can partly or completely replace sodium sulfide and sodium hydrosulfide and thus is part of the TFL Low Sulfide System. The unhairing product is a key element in ecological unhairing of hides and skins.
The products present further ecological benefits within the Low Impact Beaming and Tanning strategy of TFL with the target to further increase the use of sustainable, environmentally-friendly chemicals with a good eco tox profile.
